Instructions for installing 1-layer wood plastic flooring
5 notes when constructing 1-layer wood plastic flooring:
- The floor is constructed on a concrete base with a thickness of ≥60cm and a technical slope of 2-3% towards the water collection points.
- Stainless steel frame (size ≥30x30mm, thickness ≥1.4mm)
- Maximum distance between bars is 35cm
- The distance between the floor and the wall must be ≥15mm
- When using Kosmos plastic pins, the distance between 2 bars is 6 - 8mm. When using stainless steel pins, the distance between 2 bars is 3 - 5mm (only used in areas at least 500mm higher than the ground and with a roof).

Step 1: Prepare tools and materials for constructing 1-layer wood plastic flooring
Supplies
You need to prepare the following 5 materials to construct a 1-layer wood plastic floor.
- Stainless steel bar (size ≥ 30x30mm, thickness ≥1.4mm).
- 1 layer wood plastic floor (G3D140V25, G140V25, K140V25, K140T25, K146V25)
- Corner Trims (V60X60, V40X60, GV40X60) or wood plastic step (MB140V55)
- Plastic or stainless steel pin
- Stainless steel screw with pee tail
- Kosmos multipurpose glue.

Tool
5 types of tools needed to prepare for constructing 1-layer wood plastic flooring include:
- Angle cutting machine, welding machine, laser machine
- Tape measure, protractor.

Step 2: Surface treatment for wood plastic flooring
The construction surface must meet the following 3 technical requirements:
- Stiffness: Concrete surface with minimum thickness of 60cm must be solid and have good load-bearing capacity.
- Flatness: Surface must be flat, not rough, not peeling, pitting, cracking or wavy
- Tilt: The surface should be designed with a slight slope of 2% to 3% towards drainage points to ensure that water can flow and drain quickly, without stagnating on the surface.
Compliance with these technical requirements will help protect the structure from water damage, increase the life of the structure and ensure the safe and long-term use of the structure.

Step 3: Install the frame on the construction surface
6 requirements for the frame when installing 1-layer wood plastic flooring:
- Material for making bone bars is stainless steel or galvanized steel with size ≥30x30mm, thickness ≥1.4mm
- Distance between 2 bars ≤350mm (≤ 35cm)
- Frame leg height ≥50mm
- Distance between wall and frame ≥15mm
- At the floor connection position without using pins, double crossbars need to be installed.
- The skeleton is joined together by welding, the welds need to be smoothed and painted with anti-rust paint.

Step 4: Proceed to install the first plastic wood floor bar
- Place the first wood plastic floor bar close to the frame
- Drill a pilot hole and fix the plastic pin with a stainless steel screw on the frame.

Kosmos recommends
- Wood plastic floor panels are perpendicular to the frame (vertical floor panels use horizontal frames, horizontal floor panels use vertical frames)
- For small constructions with an area of ≤12㎡, with a roof, stable temperature, little contact with water and a height above the ground of ≥50cm such as: Yacht decks, prefabricated houses, huts, stainless steel pins can be used instead of plastic pins.
Step 5: Install the remaining plastic wood floor bars until completed
- Insert one edge of the floor bar into the plastic dowel.
- Side, insert the plastic pin and secure with stainless steel screws (pre-drill)
- Continue with the remaining bars until the skeleton is complete.

Kosmos recommends the distance between the wood plastic floor slats
- Where the connector is located:
- Distance 6 – 8 mm: when the project uses Kosmos plastic pins.
- Distance 3 – 5 mm: when the project uses stainless steel pins (under permitted conditions).
- Where there is no connecting pin ≥ 5mm.

Note: Outdoor plastic Laminate flooring should be installed in a staggered 50 - 50 pattern (forming a ladder). That is, 2 floor bars next to each other should be installed with the wrong length in the ratio ½. This installation method helps to ensure the highest level of floor structure.
Step 6: Proceed to cover the end of the wood plastic floor
Use V-shaped strips or wood plastic treads to cover the end of the wood plastic floor.
In case of covering the floor edge at a right angle, you need to cut the strip/step nose at a 45 degree angle. This way, when joining the 2 bars together, it will create a perfect right angle, ensuring the aesthetics of the project.

There are 2 ways to fix wood plastic V-shaped strips:
Option 1: Use stainless steel screws and glue, screw holes ≤350mm (≤35cm).

Option 2: Use glue and nail gun with copper nails, nail holes ≤100mm (≤10cm).

Note: Instructions are for reference only. To have the most suitable construction plan, it is necessary to survey the specific project and come up with an optimal construction solution.
Frequently asked questions when installing 1-layer wood plastic flooring
Why is it necessary to leave a gap of at least 15mm between the wood plastic floor and the wall?
A gap of ≥15mm between the wood plastic floor and the wall is extremely important because the wood plastic floor contains both plastic and wood in its structure, causing it to expand when exposed to high temperatures and contract when cold. If this gap is not left, the floor can warp, crack or be seriously damaged. This is also one of the most common errors that 80% of outdoor wood plastic floor projects often make, directly affecting the life and quality of the project.
When should you use plastic pins instead of stainless steel pins for wood plastic flooring?
Plastic pins should be used for outdoor projects with unstable temperature conditions, large areas and no roof. Plastic pins help ensure a distance of 6-8mm between floor bars and are able to withstand the natural expansion of the material. On the contrary, stainless steel pins are only suitable when the project has a roof, stable temperature and a height from the ground ≥500mm. Choosing the wrong type of pin is one of the Mistakes to avoid when installing wood plastic flooring to ensure durability and quality of the project.
Why is it necessary to install a double frame at the joint of the wood plastic floor?
Double skeleton at the floor joint is mandatory to protect the floor from breaking and ensure the strength of the entire structure. When the large area requires 3m floor bars to be connected, placing the 2 ends of the floor bars directly on the skeleton will effectively disperse the load. Failure to do this is one of the serious technical errors that can cause premature floor damage. To optimize the life of 10-15 years, it is necessary to strictly follow these technical principles.
