Should the plaster ceiling be flat or level?

To accurately decide whether to make a flat or level plaster ceiling, we need to rely on two factors:

  • Project area: Small spaces are not really suitable for drop ceilings. Instead, a flat plaster ceiling will be more optimal. Flat plaster ceilings will save space in the house and won't distract the eye.

A 2.6m high ceiling is considered too low to fit a level plaster ceiling.

  • Financial capability: More elaborate installation methods and longer construction time have made the cost of making a drop ceiling much higher than that of a flat ceiling. If you do not have enough money, flat ceilings will be the best choice.

How to close a level plaster ceiling

Each layer of plaster ceiling installed will be counted as one level. We will close based on the following steps:

B1 Determine the height of the ceiling

  • Minimum height from ceiling to floor approx 2.7m - 2.8m.
  • Do not lower the ceiling too low or exceed the limit 20cm compared to the original ceiling.

B2 Fix the wall trim

  • We measure and mark the position that needs to be fixed on the wall.
  • Use a hammer and concrete nails to fix the wall trim on the wall.

B3 Install complete frame

  • The hook is hung on the main bar some distance from the wall 400mm. The distance between the tying suspension points is 1m - 1.2m.
  • Attach the threaded rods to the main bars and then place the horizontal bars on top to create a vertical skeleton system. Align the bars for balance, ensuring the frame provides a flat surface.

B4 Install plasterboard onto the stepped frame system

  • The length of the plasterboard is parallel to the main bar and perpendicular to the horizontal bar.
  • Use a screwdriver to fix the plasterboard onto the skeleton with the screw bit completely sunk into the surface of the board.
  • Drill and cut holes in the plate at special locations such as: light sockets, ventilation equipment, etc.

B5 Treat the joints and apply putty to the plasterboard surface to complete

Plasterboard panels used in hidden ceilings and drop ceilings will have joints that need to be handled.

  • First, we use tape to tape the seams.
  • Next, we mix the joint treatment powder in the correct ratio and spread it.
  • Finally, we wait for the putty to dry and then proceed to paint the entire ceiling surface.
