Instructions for installing aluminum fluted panel ceilings on a frame.

Aluminum louvers, when used for ceiling cladding, are typically implemented in two main ways:

  1. Installed vertically, combined with a horizontal support frame.
  2. Installed horizontally, using a system of vertical support beams.

When constructing outdoor ceilings, it is mandatory to install them on a fixed frame and a frame system using U/V shaped profiles. The frame used for aluminum fluted panel ceilings should be fabricated from stainless steel or galvanized steel, with a minimum size of 25 x 25mm and a thickness of 1,2mm or more to meet the requirements for load-bearing capacity and long-term durability.

Step 1: Prepare tools and materials for installing aluminum fluted panels.

Eight materials used in the construction of 3-wave aluminum louvers for outdoor ceilings include:

  1. Reinforcing bars (stainless steel, galvanized steel) with sides ≥25mm, thickness ≥1,2mm
  2. 3-wave aluminum cladding panel with roller paint finish.
  3. Accessories (U-shaped and V-shaped trim strips)
  4. Iron plate L
  5. Stainless steel screws
  6. Copper nail
  7. Kosmos exterior adhesive, multi-purpose adhesive
  8. Kosmos silicone sealant.

Step 2: Install the U-shaped facade profiles and V-shaped trims to create the frame for the ceiling system.

Install the frame surrounding the ceiling using U-shaped facade profiles and V-shaped trim at the customer's desired ceiling height.

  1. Install the facade U-shaped profile with the open (exposed) side: Secure the U-shaped profile to the ceiling using stainless steel screws, with a screw spacing of 500-600mm. This accessory encloses the frame and cladding panels, concealing the frame from view and protecting the ceiling from the elements.

  1. Install the V-shaped trim on the wall-facing side: For enclosed spaces, simply install V-shaped trim to support and conceal the ceiling-to-wall joint. The V-shaped trim is secured to the wall with stainless steel screws at intervals of 500-600mm.
Secure the V-shaped trim strip against the wall at the desired ceiling height.

  1. Handling the joints between the bracing strips: The joints between the trim strips should be treated with multi-purpose or exterior sealant to increase the tightness of the seal.

Note for other ceiling systems:

  • For ceiling systems with one open side and three sides against walls, install U-shaped curtain wall profiles on the open side and three V-shaped profiles on the three sides against walls.

Step 3: Secure the L-shaped bracket to the ceiling.

The process of fixing L-shaped steel brackets to the ceiling consists of two main steps:

  1. Drill pilot holes in the ceiling using a drill.
  2. Secure the metal brackets into the drilled holes in the ceiling.
Vertical ceiling panels
– The distance between the drilled holes should be approximately 500mm vertically and 500-600mm horizontally.
– Drill holes approximately 100-200mm from the ceiling edge.
Horizontal ceiling tiles
– The distance between the drilled holes should be 500–600mm vertically and approximately 500mm horizontally.
– Drill holes approximately 100-200mm from the ceiling edge.

Step 4: Align and install the support beams into the ceiling using L-shaped brackets.

After the L-shaped brackets have been securely fixed to the ceiling, proceed with installing the support frame following these steps:

  1. Place the support beams and cladding panels into the pre-assembled frame. The cladding panels are spaced approximately 500-600mm apart to provide temporary stability to the frame, preventing shifting or falling during construction.

⇒ The purpose of this step is to use a guide and accurately determine the position where the frame needs to be connected to the metal brackets. This ensures that when the aluminum cladding panels are fixed to the frame, they will fit perfectly with the previously installed bracing system, resulting in a tight and uniform ceiling surface.

Place the support beams and cladding panels into the frame to determine the screw placement for fixing.

  1. Trim off the excess metal bracket after fixing it in place. The cut edges should be sanded smooth and coated with anti-rust paint.

Note regarding the technical dimensions for installing aluminum fluted panel ceilings:

[Distance from ceiling to bottom of V/U trim] = [Distance from ceiling to frame] + [Frame thickness] + [Cladding panel thickness].

Note the cases where lowering the ceiling is necessary:

Use threaded rods to lower the ceiling, then secure the frame to the threaded rods.
