Instructions for installing wall cladding for 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel

When constructing house walls, there are 1 main construction cases of 2-layer fluted wood plastic panel including:

  1. Horizontal wall cladding, vertical bar installation
  2. Vertical wall cladding, horizontal bar installation.

Because the 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel is quite heavy (7kg/bar - 9,7kg/bar ±5%), it needs to be reinforced on a sturdy frame system with a distance between the bars. ≤25cm to ensure user safety.

Kosmos recommends that the 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel is only used for wall cladding and not for ceiling cladding. In addition, the construction area must ensure a width of ≤6m and a height of ≤3m (If the area is larger, switch to using 2-layer fluted wood plastic panels coated with ASA - 4S184X28, 5S169X14, 8S169X14).

Note: If customers want to decorate the ceiling with fluted wood plastic panels, they should use 2-layer fluted wood plastic panels coated with ASA to ensure the safety of their ceiling. (ASA-coated wood plastic panels are lightweight materials, solutions for exterior ceilings).

Tool

7 essential tools in the process of constructing wall cladding for fluted wood plastic panels include:

  1. Angle cutter, drilling machine, welding machine, laser machine
  2. Tape measure, angle ruler
  3. Nail gun.

Step 2: Create a joint between the wall and the frame using iron anchors

The process of creating a joint between the wall and the frame using iron anchors includes the following 3 steps:

  1. Using a drill, drill into the wall of the house.
  2. Insert iron plugs into drilled holes
  3. Tighten the anchor bolts until the connections are secure and strong.
1.1. Horizontal wall cladding

When using a drill, drilling into the wall requires a distance between the holes. ≤ 25cm vertically and ≤ 50cm horizontally.

At the positions where the double ribs are installed, holes need to be drilled 5mm apart vertically.

1.2. Vertical wall cladding

When using a drill, drilling into the wall requires a distance between the holes. ≤ 25cm horizontally and ≤ 50cm vertically.

At the positions where the double ribs are installed, holes need to be drilled 5mm apart horizontally.

4 common types of iron anchors: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm, corresponding to 4 types of drill bits: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm.

Step 3: Build the skeleton

1.1. Horizontal wall cladding

Using a welding machine, weld the vertical bars to the iron plugs already on the wall, the distance between the bars is ≤250mm (≤25cm) vertically.

1.2. Vertical wall cladding

Use a welding machine to fix the horizontal bars to the iron plugs already on the wall, the distance between the bars is ≤250mm (≤25cm) horizontally.

** Kosmos recommends:

  1. Frame material: Stainless steel bar or galvanized steel bar with size ≥ 25x25mm, thickness ≥ 1.2mm.
  2. The frame needs to leave a gap of 7-10mm from the wall to install the wood-plastic V-shaped strip. This is also a safe distance for the frame and fluted wood-plastic panel to expand.
  3. At the position where the 2 panels are joined, a double rib must be installed. The distance between the 2 double ribs is 5mm.

Kosmos recommends: The 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel is quite heavy, 7kg/bar - 9,7kg/bar (about 16,4kg/m²), so it is recommended to install it on brick or concrete walls through a frame and not to install the panel directly on the wall.

Step 4: Install fluted wood plastic panel onto the frame

6 steps to install 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel horizontal on the skeleton:

  1. Apply Kosmos exterior glue to the crossbar before installing the panel.
  2. Install the first fluted wood panel's male groove facing the ground horizontally, the negative groove facing up (install the panel from bottom to top)
  3. Drilling and screwing stainless steel fish tail into the recess to fix the panel on the frame and into the fluted panel groove as illustrated in figure 3 below (the distance between the screw holes is equal to the distance between the ribs).  ≤250mm)
  4. Install the male groove of the second panel into the screwed negative groove of the first panel and fix the second panel onto the crossbar at the negative groove.
  5. Repeat the same steps until the window position, need to measure and cut the panel to the correct size of the window as illustrated in figure 5 below.
  6. Repeat the same steps above for each panel to the end of the wall (At the top position, cut the slat to the width suitable for the area to be installed and then fix it to the position to be installed).

Kosmos recommends

At the joint position, the panels need to be placed on double ribs, the distance between 2 double ribs is 5mm and the distance between 2 fluted panel joints is 5mm.

When the 2 fluted panel ends are connected together, they need to be placed on a double rib and the distance between the 2 fluted panel ends is 2mm.

6 steps to install 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel vertical mounting on the skeleton:

  1. Apply Kosmos exterior glue to the crossbar before installing the panel.
  2. Install the first fluted wood panel's male groove facing the wall, the negative groove facing outward (install from left to right or right to left depending on the installer).
  3. Drilling and screwing stainless steel fish tail into the recess to fix the panel on the frame and into the fluted panel groove as illustrated in figure 3 below.
  4. Install the male groove of the second panel into the screwed negative groove of the first panel and fix the second panel onto the crossbar at the negative groove.
  5. Repeat the same steps until the window position, need to measure and cut the panel to the correct size of the window as illustrated in figure 5 below.
  6. Repeat the same steps above for each panel to the end of the wall (At the top position, cut the slat to the width suitable for the area to be installed and then fix it to the position to be installed.).

Step 5: Cover the edges of the fluted wood plastic panel with wood plastic V-shaped strips at the end of the window panel and the end of the wall panel to complete.

Cover the exposed edges of window and wall panels with wood plastic V-shaped strips (V60X60, V40X60, GV40X60). Please note that at right angles, the V-shaped strips need to be cut at a 45° angle.

There are 2 ways to fix the wood plastic V-shaped strip onto the panel and the frame.

Method 1: Use glue and fishtail screws, screw holes ≤ 350mm (≤ 35cm).

1.1.a. Use V-shaped strip to finish horizontal window panel with glue and stainless steel screws

1.1.b. Use V-shaped strip to finish the horizontal wall with glue and stainless steel screws

1.2.a. Use V-shaped strip to finish vertical window paneling with glue and stainless steel screws

1.2.b. Use V-shaped strip to finish vertical wall paneling with glue and stainless steel screws

Method 2: Use glue and nail gun with copper nails, nail holes ≤ 100mm (≤ 10cm).

2.1.a. Use V-shaped strip to finish the horizontal window with glue and copper nails

2.1.b. Use V-shaped strip to finish the horizontal wall with glue and copper nails

2.2.a. Use V-shaped strip to finish vertical window paneling with glue and copper nails

2.2.b. Use V-shaped strip to finish vertical wall paneling with glue and copper nails

Kosmos recommends the wall size for constructing 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel:

Wall size when constructing 1-layer fluted wood plastic panel requires width ≤6m and height ≤3m. If your area is larger than the recommended size, please switch to using 2-layer ASA-coated fluted wood plastic panels (4S184X28, 5S169X14, 8S169X14). ASA coated 2-layer wood plastic wave panels are lightweight materials, the solution for high walls.
