Instructions for installing 2-layer polymer-coated wood plastic slats for decorative cladding

Polymer-coated 2-layer wood plastic slats (2-layer wood plastic slats) are used to make sunshade slats, pergola flower trellises, signs, and facades, with a lifespan of 15-20 years. Kosmos commits to a 3-year quality warranty.

When constructing double-layer wood plastic box for facade cladding, you need to pay attention to the following 2 things:

  1. Insert the stainless steel bar or galvanized steel bar into the slat.
  2. Lam box construction on the frame with distance between bars ≤100cm (≤1m)
  3. The slats and the ribs are connected together through the L-shaped iron bracket by stainless steel screws.
  4. The box must be pre-drilled before fixing through the skeleton.
  5. Slats 10mm from wall and corner
  6. When it is necessary to connect the slats, The distance between 2 connecting bars is from 3 - 5mm..

Step 1: Prepare materials and tools for constructing 2-layer polymer-coated box panels for wall cladding

Supplies

Below are 6 types of materials you need to prepare:

  1. Stainless steel or galvanized steel bar
  2. 2-layer polymer coated wood plastic slats (LAM60X42, LAM100X50)
  3. Bar end cap (NL60X42, NL100X50)
  4. Iron plate L
  5. Stainless steel screw with pee tail
  6. Iron anchor.

Note on how to use iron bracket L:

L-shaped iron plate has size 50x30mm, made from 304 stainless steel with 2 round holes and 2 elliptical holes in 1 bracket.

  • Round hole: Fix the L-shaped iron bracket to the wall or to the stainless steel or galvanized steel bar.
  • Elliptical bore: Used for pilot holes on the bar.

Refer to the image below for screw positions for the iron bracket. In addition, any direction of the iron bracket (long, short) when placed on the wall/frame or slat is fine.

Tool

6 necessary tools for the construction process of 2-layer wood plastic box slats for wall cladding include:

  1. Welding machine, angle cutting machine, drilling machine, laser machine
  2. Tape measure, protractor.

Step 2: Measure, cut and thread the stainless steel box or galvanized steel box into the wood plastic slats

Step 3: Cover the end of the slat with a plastic slat end cap

Step 4: Create a joint between the wall and the frame using iron anchors

The process of creating a joint between the wall and the frame using iron anchors includes 3 steps:

1. Using a drill, drill into the wall.

Distance between drilled holes when installing vertically: The holes are spaced ≤100cm vertically and ≤35cm horizontally. The first drill bit should not be more than 10cm (≤10cm) from the wall – from the top wall to the drill bit and from the bottom wall to the drill bit.

Distance between drilled holes when installing horizontally: The holes are spaced ≤100cm horizontally and ≤35cm vertically. The first drill bit should not be more than 10cm (≤10cm) from the wall – from the left wall to the drill bit and from the right wall to the drill bit.

2. Insert iron plugs into the drilled holes.

3. Tighten the anchor bolts until the connections are secure and strong.

4 common types of iron anchors: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm, corresponding to 4 types of drill bits: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm.

Step 5: Build the skeleton

Using a welding machine, weld the frame to the iron plugs already on the wall.

Vertical: Horizontal bars and the distance between bars ≤100cm, the first bar is ≤10cm from the wall.

Step 6: Install 2-layer polymer-coated wood plastic slats

1. Measure and mark the position where the L-shaped iron bracket will be installed on the frame (this distance depends on the user's needs). Then, drill and shoot 304 stainless steel screws to fix the L-shaped iron bracket onto the frame.

Vertical: The L-shaped iron plate is placed horizontally.

Horizontal: When constructing horizontal panels, we will use our eyes to clearly identify the 2 areas. The area above eye level, the iron bracket that fixes the slats will face up. The area below eye level, the iron bracket that fixes the slats will face down.

2. The slat is fixed by an L-shaped iron bracket right at the elliptical hole with 304 stainless steel screws as shown in the picture (the slat must be pre-drilled before being fixed to the frame). After installing a row of iron brackets, a box bar will be fixed and repeated to the construction site.

3. Do the same for the remaining slats until the end of the project.

Note: The maximum clearance between the slat and the frame (as shown below) shall not exceed 10cm.

** Kosmos recommends:

When connecting 2 slats together, a gap must be left to avoid cracking due to expansion when used outdoors. If the ambient temperature is higher than 5℃ when installing the slats, the allowable gap is 3mm, if lower than 5℃, the allowable gap is 5mm.

In addition, a 10mm gap should be left between the slats and other obstacles (walls, corners, etc.) for the same reason.

Every 3-6 months, the project needs to be checked and periodically maintained to ensure the best lifespan of the project. If any abnormalities are detected in screws or slats, the construction unit must be notified immediately.

Note: Instructions are for reference only. To have the most suitable construction plan, it is necessary to survey the specific project and come up with an optimal construction solution.

In addition to being used for wall cladding, 2-layer polymer-coated outdoor wood plastic box slats are also used to make sunshade slats..
