Instructions for installing aluminum awning panels (single roof – 1 roof)

Single-roof aluminum awning It is an outdoor shading project using insulated aluminum roofing panels, designed with a single slope , and All the rainwater is collected on one side., without a roof intersection like V-shaped roof (double-pitched roof)

Following the correct installation instructions for aluminum awning panels ensures stable roof operation and guarantees a lifespan of over 30 years for the entire roof system.

Step 2: Install the gutter for the porch roof.

The installation process for the gutter system on the porch roof is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Apply Kosmos exterior sealant to the frame in the area where the gutter will be installed.
  2. Place the gutter on the frame, align it properly, and create a slope towards the drain pipe.
  3. Drill pilot holes and use stainless steel screws to secure the gutter, ensuring the distance between screws does not exceed 350mm.
  4. At the outlet, cut a hole the correct size for the drain pipe, apply sealant, and install the drain pipe into the gutter.
  5. Attach end caps to both ends of the gutter to complete the project.

Notes on connecting the gutters:

If you need to join multiple sections of gutter, use specialized gutter connectors. Apply sealant to the joint, then attach the two ends of the gutter to the connector and ensure a tight seal.

Step 3: Install the mounting strips onto the awning frame.

The bracing strip begins to play the role of the first attachment point for the roof panels, helping to position and stabilize the panel system during installation.

The splint installation process begins as follows:

  1. Apply Kosmos multi-purpose or exterior adhesive to the underside of the brace, then place the brace onto the frame.
  2. Secure the trim with stainless steel screws, approximately 3 screws per meter of length.

Kosmos recommends the following exoskeleton:

The frame for installing the awning should be made of stainless steel or galvanized steel to ensure load-bearing capacity and durability outdoors.

Step 4: Installing the aluminum awning panels

With a single-layer roof structure, the entire roof panel is installed in a single slope direction, facing the gutter to ensure centralized drainage.

Aluminum roofing panels are installed in the following 9 steps:

  1. For the first panel, apply adhesive to the tongue and groove joint and to the corresponding frame position, then attach the panel to the starting bracket.
  2. Secure the roof panels to the frame using stainless steel screws at the tongue and groove points.
  3. For subsequent panels, continue applying adhesive to the tongue and groove joints and the frame, insert the new panel into the previous one, and then secure it at the tongue and groove joint.
  4. Repeat this process until the entire width of the roof is covered.

Recommendations when joining panels along the length of the roof:

If the roof length exceeds the panel length, use connecting strips to join the panels. Apply glue to the two grooves of the connecting strip, attach the connecting strip to the secured end of the panel, then insert the next panel into the remaining part of the connecting strip and seal the joint.

Step 5: Install the end trim for the aluminum awning panels.

The end trim is installed in the following two steps:

  1. Apply Kosmos exterior adhesive to the inside of the trim strip.
  2. Attach the trim strip to the tongue and groove edge of the last roof panel, tucking it along the length of the panel to completely cover the outer edge.

The above guidelines are for basic construction guidance. In practice, a site survey is necessary to select the most suitable and safe installation method.

Step 7: Install the "angled panel" to cover the junction between the wall and the awning.

Install the "angled panel" – an accessory that covers the joint between the panel and the wall. To prevent water from seeping into the gap, the installation process for the "angled panel" must follow these three steps:

  1. Align the holes on the fitting with the raised wave patterns on the aluminum cladding panel, then press the fitting firmly against the wall.
  2. Secure the accessory to the wall with stainless steel screws at the slot.
  3. Apply silicone sealant at the joint between the top of the fitting and the wall.

The installation of a single-panel aluminum awning must be carried out in the correct sequence, from material preparation, gutter installation, initial clamping, individual panel installation, to the final finishing with end clamps and caps, to ensure efficient water drainage, stable interlocking, and a neat finished surface.

This type of structure is commonly applied to townhouse porches, balconies, side walkways, backyards, or parking areas – spaces that require lightweight protection from rain and sun, with minimal alteration to the existing structure.

Adhering to the correct installation guidelines for aluminum awning panels (single roof) not only helps to minimize common problems such as water leakage, gaps in joints, or panel vibration in wind, but also contributes to maintaining the effectiveness and durability of the roofing system during long-term use.
