Instructions for construction of outdoor plastic wood ceiling

Wood plastic ceiling is an item installed with panels made of wood plastic (Wood Plastic Composite, WPC), a material produced from wood pulp, plastic and accompanying additives. Plastic wood is easily extruded into flat or fluted panel shapes.

Construction of outdoor plastic wood ceiling includes 4 steps:

  • Step 1: Prepare tools and materials to construct plastic wood ceilings.
  • Step 2: Fix the threaded rod to the ceiling and build the skeleton.
  • Step 3: Install the first plastic wood panel on the frame.
  • Step 4: Install the next plastic wood panel through the lock.

A 2021 study published in the Journal of Construction Engineering investigated the mechanical properties of WPC under various environmental conditions, including the following: “From physical properties of WPC, it was found that it has low moisture content, swelling and absorbency respectively making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

When constructing this type of ceiling, it needs to be constructed with a skeleton frame and must have mandatory compliance notes such as:

  • Distance between bone bars no more than 500mm.
  • The thickness of the galvanized iron bar (or stainless steel bar) used to make the skeleton is thickness greater than 25mm.
  • Do not install plastic wood ceilings in constructions that use Poly/glass panels as roofing.

Specific information on the steps to install plastic wood panels on the ceiling will be provided shortly!

B1 Prepare tools and supplies to construct plastic wood ceilings

The materials used to construct the plastic wood ceiling include:

  • Stainless steel bar or galvanized box iron (thickness ≥25mm)
  • Plastic wood paneling.
  • Screws and bullet switches.
  • I flirt, I flirt.
  • Kosmos glue.

Besides, you also need to equip some specialized tools such as cutters, drills, screwdrivers, measuring tape and folding ladders to make the construction process happen quickly.

B2 Position and nail the threaded rod to the ceiling

First, use a drill to make a hole to temporarily hang the switch on the ceiling. After that, screw the threaded stem into the socket, then fix the screw and complete. Use a welding machine
skeleton by fixing the bone bar to the threaded stem.

If threaded nipples are not used, iron clamps can be used instead.

Note:

1. Do not install the panel directly on the wall.

2. Distance between threaded rods/bars ≤500mm.

3. In case the panel must be extended, it should be installed
add bone bars at the joints.

4.In case of constructing a plastic wood ceiling on the balcony, it should be installed so that the ceiling has a slight tilt outward. This keeps rainwater from getting inside. Ideally, additional "water thread" should be installed to ensure the best durability for the ceiling

Water thread is a line that is often embossed with mortar on balconies and loggias. Nowadays, we can use water shutoff braces/water hook edges instead. This detail helps keep rainwater from flowing back into the ceiling.

B3 Install the first plastic wood panel on the skeleton

The 2 edges of the plastic wood paneling are designed in different shapes, which are distinguished under the names of yin and yang. When installing the first plastic wood paneling close to the wall, we will direct the yang weir inwards and the yin weirs out. The panel is fixed on the skeleton by screwing stainless steel screws into the negative side of the panel.

Note:

  • Plastic wood paneling must be placed perpendicular to the bone bar.
  • Apply glue to the skeleton to make the structure more sturdy.
  • Where panels need to be connected, a double frame must be installed, so that the joint lies on the frame

In case the installation area receives direct and frequent sunlight, Kosmos recommends using smooth grain panels or 3D wood grain instead of 2D printed grain.

B4 Install the next plastic wood paneling through the locking chuck

Install the second panel onto the first panel to match the lock system (the positive seam matches the negative seam). We shoot screws into the negative seam and then connect the positive seam, performing the above operation continuously until the end is complete. ceiling surface area.

The beauty of this ceiling material is that the positive seam will cover the screw heads on the negative seam, ensuring aesthetics for plastic wood ceiling construction projects.
